International Albinism Awareness Day (IAAD)
On December 18, 2014, the United Nations’ General Assembly adopted a resolution establishing June 13th as International Albinism Awareness Day. This historic resolution confirmed the global focus on albinism advocacy. TAS Morogoro joins with the worldwide albinism community in encouraging everyone to celebrate and promote albinism awareness on June 13th each year with different themes.
In Tanzania, people with albinism continue to face discrimination, violence, and stigma. They are often denied access to education, employment, and healthcare. They are also at increased risk of skin cancer and other health problems.
TAS Morogoro is a non-governmental organization that works to promote the rights and dignity of people with albinism in Tanzania.
TAS Morogoro organizes a variety of activities to commemorate IAAD each year, including:
Public education campaigns:
TAS Morogoro works to educate the public about albinism and the challenges faced by people with albinism, through public awareness events, social media campaigns, and educational materials.
Advocacy:
TAS Morogoro advocates for the rights and dignity of people with albinism at the local, national, and international levels. They work to ensure that people with albinism have equal access to education, employment, healthcare, and other essential services.
Support services:
TAS Morogoro provides a variety of support services to people with albinism and their families. These services include access to healthcare, education, and vocational training.
TAS Morogoro also provides counseling and support to people with albinism who have been victims of violence or discrimination.
Miss International Albinism Awareness Day
In 2019, TAS Morogoro established and hosted Miss International Albinism Awareness Day competition. This competition created to celebrate the beauty and diversity of people with albinism.
It also serves to raise awareness of the challenges faced by people with albinism and to promote their rights.
The competition is a great idea for success, and it help to raise awareness of albinism in Tanzania and around the world.
