Empowering Inclusion and Economic Independence
In 2025, Tanzania Albinism Society (TAS) Morogoro successfully implemented two flagship projects that demonstrate our unwavering commitment to equality, empowerment, and social justice.
These initiatives have transformed the lives of women and youth with and without albinism by strengthening their capacity, leadership, and access to economic opportunities.
Our achievements reflect the power of collaboration and the lasting impact of community-driven development.

1. Skills for Employment Tanzania (SET)

Target Beneficiaries: Youth with and without Albinism (aged 15–24)

About the Project

The Skills for Employment Tanzania (SET) project is a youth-focused initiative implemented by TAS Morogoro in partnership with Swisscontact. The project tackled youth unemployment by equipping both youth with albinism and those without albinism with hands-on vocational, entrepreneurship, and life skills to start and manage sustainable businesses. By promoting inclusive training and equal participation, the project empowered marginalized youth while addressing poverty and economic inequality in Morogoro Municipality.

Project Objectives

  • 1. Vocational Training: Train 70 youth in the production of high-quality spice and food products such as tea masala, pilau masala, curry powder, nutrient flour, ginger powder, and cinnamon powder.
  • 2. Life and Business Skills Development: Build youth capacity in communication, financial literacy, teamwork, customer service, discipline, and problem-solving.
  • 3. Entrepreneurship and Income Generation: Support participants to start individual or group enterprises that promote self-employment and economic resilience.
Key Activities
  • i. Conducted vocational and technical training in food and spice production, packaging, and quality control.
  • ii. Facilitated the formation of 6 group businesses and 10 individual enterprises led by trained youth.
  • iii. Established Youth Savings and Loan Associations (YSLAs) to promote financial inclusion and access to capital.
  • iv. Linked young entrepreneurs with local markets and buyers to strengthen business growth.
  • v. Supported youth groups to access microfinance and business loans for enterprise expansion.
Expected Results and Success
The SET project empowered 70 youth with practical and entrepreneurial skills, enabling them to manage profitable small businesses and improve their livelihoods.
Key achievements include:
  • Creation of youth-led enterprises promoting inclusive local production.
  • Strengthened financial and business management skills among participants.
  • Enhanced income generation and economic independence for youth with albinism.
  • Increased social inclusion and collaboration between youth with and without albinism.
Sustainability and Call to Action
Sustainability is achieved through ongoing mentorship, strong linkages with local markets and financial institutions, and the strengthening of youth business associations.
The project’s legacy continues through empowered young entrepreneurs who are now role models within their communities. TAS Morogoro invites partners, donors, and private sector actors to collaborate in scaling up this inclusive skills program helping more youth gain dignified work, independence, and hope for the future.

2. Disability Justice Fund for Women (DJFW)

Target Beneficiaries: Young Girls and Women with Albinism (aged 18–35)
Total Budget: USD 18,000

About the Project

The Disability Justice Fund for Women (DJFW) is a pioneering initiative implemented by TAS Morogoro with support from ADD International.
The project aimed to empower, protect, and uplift young girls and women with albinism through advocacy, leadership development, and inclusion.
By addressing systemic discrimination and social exclusion, DJFW worked to ensure that women and girls with albinism are recognized, respected, and included in all areas of life, socially, politically, and economically.

Project Objectives

1. Advocacy for the African Disability Protocol (ADP): To stimulate national advocacy that leads to the ratification and signing of the ADP in Tanzania.
2. Leadership and Movement Building: To enhance the unity, confidence, and leadership of women with disabilities especially women and girls with albinism through advocacy, capacity building, and collective action for gender equality and social justice. Key Activities
  • i. Conducted rights-based training on the ADP and disability laws for women and girls with albinism.
  • ii. Strengthened participants’ self-esteem and leadership skills, empowering them as advocates and change agents.
  • iii. Supported advocacy campaigns influencing policymakers to ratify the ADP and strengthen disability-inclusive laws.
  • iv. Collaborated with schools to educate students through Disability Rights Clubs on inclusion and equality.
  • v. Organized local media talk shows to raise awareness of disability rights and inclusion.
  • vi. Facilitated participation of young women with albinism in local and national elections to increase their representation in leadership.
Expected Results and Success
Through DJFW, TAS Morogoro reached and empowered dozens of women and girls with albinism in Morogoro Municipality, equipping them with knowledge, confidence, and advocacy skills.
The project strengthened cooperation among disability organizations, reduced stigma, and fostered inclusion within communities.
Major outcomes include:
  • • Increased awareness and advocacy for the African Disability Protocol (ADP).
  • • Strengthened women-led disability movements and local leadership.
  • • Enhanced visibility and participation of women with albinism in governance and community decision-making.
Sustainability and Call to Action
Sustainability is anchored in continuous advocacy and partnerships with local disability networks and government institutions. By building the leadership capacity of beneficiaries, DJFW ensures ongoing advocacy beyond the project timeline.

3. Inclusive and Sustainable Livelihood for People with Disabilities in Mvomero District FCS/MDG/2022/2960

Funded by FCS

TAS Morogoro is Implementing the Inclusive and Sustainable livelihood For People with Disabilities project funded by Foundation for Civil Society (FCS). This project if for 8 months from 01st September 2022 to 30 April 2023.
The intervention aimed to improve the living standard of people with disabilities through strengthening equal access to socio-economic opportunities and into decision-making organs in Nyandila, Muhonda, Sungaji, Hembeti, Mvomero and Mkindo wards of Mvomero District in Morogoro Region.
The project covers the following activities; public sensitization meetings, capacity building training to village committees of people with disabilities, entrepreneurship and business skills for PWDs, and awareness among caregivers.
This project work hand in hand with local government officers, representative of the organization of people with disabilities (OPDs) in the wards and district level, caregivers, journalists, and the community.
This project expects improved participation of People with Disabilities and their caregivers in political, Economic, and social life, with diminished attitudinal, infrastructural, and policy barriers. Also, the project expects improved entrepreneurship and financial skills for PWDs and their caregivers by 2023 in Mvomero District.

4. Unlocking local opportunities for People with Disabilities phase 2

The project seeks to scale up results achieved in the 1st phase of the previous project advocated for enabling environment, identifying and accessing local opportunities available for PWDs, particularly in creating employment. Key successes of the 1st phase of the project include increased awareness of PWDs on availability of the interest-free 2% of the funds from the district councils, the contribution of the establishment of the PWDs Committees in 9 districts, as well as development and submission of the charter of demand.
In the one-year previous time, 75 entrepreneurial groups were established and accessed the 2% interest-free funds for their businesses. However, neither the established committees in all 9 district councils are not effectively using the charter of demand nor the established entrepreneurial groups have access to financial sources other than the district councils for their business growths.
This project wants to develop capacity of the ten (10) Committees of PWDs in Morogoro on how to use the developed charter of demand for increased access to available opportunities with particular focus on increasing employment; improving access to market, financial and technical support to entrepreneurial groups of PWDs in nine (9) districts; increased political participation of PWDs in village/street, ward, district and regional levels in Morogoro and; increased public awareness on the rights, opportunities, and abilities of PWDs through open camp
aigns and effective use of social and traditional media.
At the organizational level, the project seeks to develop social media strategy that will be along with the establishment of the YouTube channel and regularly update the existing website and social media pages.
This will play a big role not only in communicating the work of the project but also will increase the organizational visibility, engage community members and mobilize resources hence sustainability in turn
